Summary

IMS is excited to launch our adolescent program in the 2025-2026 school year. We are seeking is seeking an Adolescent/Secondary Education guide with a background in math and/or science to join our team beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. We are looking for a creative educator to co-lead our founding adolescent team and innovate with us! 

For the upcoming school year, you will spend the year learning our school culture and getting to know our students and families while you develop the foundation of the adolescent prorgam in collaboration with our Director of Programs, Assistant Head of School, and Head of School. A successful candidate will love the creation and curriculum development process and will take a leadership position within the adolescent team when the program opens.

The Position

• Develop the adolescent Montessori curricular framework
• Design the Montessori classroom environment, creating materials and designing activities as necessary for the success of the classroom and students.
• Create, manage and maintain a safe (emotionally and physically) joyful, positive atmosphere for the students
• Carefully observe individual students to gain insight into their needs, and problem solve their challenges in order to meet those needs
• Participate in and help lead Family Education evening events
• Maintain a strong home/school partnership by ensuring consistent, respectful and open lines of communication with families
• Complete progress reports and parent-teachers conferences for all students
• Plan and lead multiple field trips a year (day and extended overnight)
• Build community connections to support, deliver, and/or enhance the adolescent program

Traits and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years’ experience as an adolescent Montessori guide
• Secondary I Montessori Credential from a MACTE accredited program
• A love for working with 12-15 year old students
• Deep understanding of the third plane of adolescent development
• Experience with or exposure to other languages and cultures and experience working with diverse groups of adults
• Ability to foster positive relationships with and among students and families
• Ability and interest in collaborative work with colleagues and with the community for the benefit of our students
• Ability to meet varied demands and deadlines with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, and flexibility

The Position

• Co-lead a class of up to 25 students
• Deliver established upper elementary Montessori scope and sequence.
• Design the Montessori classroom environment, creating materials and designing activities as necessary for the success of the classroom and children.
• Create, manage and maintain a safe (emotionally and physically) joyful, positive atmosphere for the children
• Carefully observe individual children to gain insight into their needs, and problem solve their challenges in order to meet those needs
• Be a positive and collaborative leader for one or more Assistant Teachers and/or Floaters who support the classroom
• Participate in and help lead Family Education evening events
• Maintain a strong home/school partnership by ensuring consistent, respectful and open lines of communication with parents
• Complete progress reports and parent-teachers conferences for all students twice a year
• Serves as a chaperone on field trips (day and overnight)

• Bachelor’s degree
• 3+ years’ experience as a classroom teacher, Montessori Guide, and/or Montessori Assistant
• Montessori Credential from a MACTE accredited center or a willingness to complete school-sponsored AMS Montessori training.
• A love for teaching 9-12 year old students
• Strong understanding of elementary age and adolescent development

Summary

IMS seeks a full-time lower elementary Reading Specialist/English teacher to join our staff in August 2024. Responsibilities include co-teaching English reading and writing skills to lower elementary students.

The Position

• Co-lead at least six weekly classes of up to 25 students each.
• Deliver established lower elementary Montessori English language arts scope and sequence.
• Work individually and in small group with children to implement a structured literacy approach to reading
• Create, manage and maintain a safe (emotionally and physically) joyful, positive atmosphere for the children
• Carefully observe individual children to gain insight into their needs, and problem solve their challenges in order to meet those needs
• Be a positive and collaborative leader for one or more Assistant Teachers and/or Floaters who support the classroom
• Participate in and help lead Family Education evening events
• Maintain a strong home/school partnership by ensuring consistent, respectful and open lines of communication with parents
• Complete progress reports and parent-teachers conferences for all students twice a year

Our ideal candidate has been a master teacher in Montessori classrooms for children ages 6 to 12 years old and is seeking to grow in a leadership and coaching position, to support other elementary guides, and to facilitate authentic Montessori environments that nurture students, staff, and families. 

Our school enjoys a diverse, international staff who provide a language immersion Montessori education for our students. We have three lower elementary classrooms providing an authentic Montessori education in Spanish, French or Mandarin Chinese in a 100% one-way immersion model in addition to one upper elementary classroom that is conducted in English in the mornings and in the immersion language in the afternoons. 

Your Background

• 5+ years of successful classroom experience as a lead lower and/or upper elementary guide (ideally both)
• 1+ year of experience in a supervisory or coaching role
• Experience with or exposure to other languages and cultures and experience working with diverse groups of adults.
• Elementary I/II Montessori-certification from a MACTE-accredited program
• Strong proficiency in French, Spanish, and/or Chinese is preferred, but not required.

The Role

• Support classrooms guides in their professional growth, including assisting in addressing areas of growth that may arise with their classroom
• Facilitate regular planning and record keeping
• Lead regular level meetings
• Provide regular observations for staff and students
• Coordinate student support for the 6 to 12 year old age groups as part of our multi-tiered system of support
• Review all elementary progress reports prior to release
• Coordinate elementary participation in school-wide events
• Advocate for the elementary level at the administrative level
